Reader’s Question:

If my auto insurance has been canceled in the past due to non-payment in Santa Fe, New Mexico, do I have to pay the entire car insurance premium up front?

You might have to pay your whole car insurance premium up front, instead of financing or making payments along the way, if you have had an insurance lapse of coverage previously in Santa Fe, New Mexico. This will still depend upon your case and the underwriting rules of the insurance provider you are trying to obtain insurance with if you will be required to pay in full for your next car insurance policy.

You may be required by your state to make a payment in full and have your insurance company file a financial requirement certificate or SR22. Most states usually require a six month paid in full if you have let your car insurance to lapse. The Financial Responsibility form is usually referred to as an SR22 certificate in most states.
