Reader’s Question:

What is the length of time an insurance provider in Rio Rancho holds a driving offense against a policyholder?

Rita

Rio Rancho, NM

Every insurance provider in New Mexico has different criteria. Generally, an insurer reviews either:

  • The last 3 years of driving record and/or claims report.
  • The last 5 years of driving record and/or claims report.
  • The last 7 years of driving record and/or claims report.

You can verify with your insurance company in Rio Rancho, NM how long they review your driving record. Most insurance carriers review the last three years, but some review the last five years. Each insurer assigns a point-value to your state’s driving record incidents. This point-value is not related to the state’s licensing point system which is used for driving eligibility.

Some insurance carriers use an insurance score. An insurance score is the calculated numerical ranking based on a individual’s credit record and/or other factors (including driving records, credit worthiness, claims history).
